The Love of God

My mind has been a flurry of thoughts this week from reading all the posts and articles shared surrounding the opening of the movie “50 Shades of Grey.” One article in particular stood out to me as I read it last night, and after reading it the flurry of thoughts turned into what I can only describe as a blizzard! The general premise of the article states that the reason 50 Shades of Grey has been so popular and successful (which we will no doubt see as the movie opens today) is that people desire to be loved and desire to help redeem others. Both of these can only ever be perfectly done by Jesus Christ. To seek it elsewhere is to be found wanting, and I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the women who are seeking to find satisfaction and fulfillment from reading and watching this series are going to emerge still desiring something more.

And that’s where we have an opportunity.

We, who know perfect love. We, who have received redemption. We, who have a satisfaction and fulfillment beyond understanding, can be a voice in the darkness that shouts, “I have something better!”

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.”
John 3:16

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
John 13:34

“We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19

“In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
1 John 4:10

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.”
Romans 5:6

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
1 John 4:16

Could we with ink

As a woman who has been forever changed by Jesus, I want to make sure that I take every opportunity to tell you that He is better than everything, and a life lived for Him is better than anything the world tells you to pursue. Whatever small influence I may have with the words I share here, I want to make sure that I am using them to point to the only one who is perfect and the only one who will ever truly satisfy. His love, oh his love, is better.
