“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:36-40

There are so many verses about love. Reading the Bible you can learn what love looks like (1 Cor. 13), what a result of showing love is (John 13:35), and even who love is (1 John 4:8b).

But, I think the above verses in Matthew are where we need start. The greatest commandment, in all of scripture, is that we love God with everything we have! And the next is that we love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.

A Christian life can be summed up, according to these verses, as loving God and loving others. Then, the Bible shows us just how to do those things. We are shown Christ, and we see His example. We see the love Christ had for God and His singleness of heart to please Him, and we are to emulate that. And beautifully in scripture we see the way Jesus loved others. He came alongside those who were outcast and unloved. He gave of Himself for the good of others, and ultimately showed this by His death on the cross. If you want to know how to love others just look at the life of Christ. He is the greatest example for us all!

No matter what I do or say (or write here), my prayer is that my love for the Lord will shine through. I have this one life to live and God has told me the best way to live it, by loving Him and loving others.
